Bivouacs Napoléoniens, Weekend historique du Champ de Bataille de Waterloo

Waterloo (Brabant Wallonia region)
BELGIUM

The Event

The Battle of Waterloo features as one of the greatest battles in European history, the final confrontation between France and the rest of Europe, between Napoleon’s troops and those of Wellington and Blücher, marking the fall of Napoleon. It took place on 18th June 1815.

Situated close to Brussels, the Waterloo Battlefield has been preserved almost as it was in 1815. The Lion Mound Hamlet, the panorama, the audiovisual presentations and films, along with the Wax Museum, all help the visitor to relive the famous Battle of Waterloo.
Every year, hundreds of re-enactors from all over the world gather on the battlefield to recreate the events of June 1815. Every fifth year the great reenactment of the Battle of Waterloo takes place (see the related article in the Events Calendar), the other years there are reenactments of Waterloo that include Napoleonic bivouacs, displays of the Battle of Hougoumont and the Battle of Plancenoit.

The visitors have the opportunity to discover the soldiers’ everyday life and feel the imperial atmosphere. The bivouacs will be completed by the Empire market, recreating the atmosphere of a market street during the Napoleonic era.
