The Event

Kulikovo Field, located near the Don river, in Tula Oblast, 140 km away from Tula, is the site of the famous Battle of Kulikovo, which was fought on September 8, 1380 between the Golden Horde guided by Mamai and Russians led by Dmitriy Donskoy. The battle resulted in the victory of the Rissuans. Today, Kulikovo Field is home to a museum complex, which includes a 28-meter column on Red Hill and a memorial church in honor of Sergius of Radonezh.

The Festival of History “Kulikovo Field” has been held annually since 1996 in the middle of September, around the Kulikovo Battle anniversary day. Representatives of military historical clubs from all over Russia, Ukraine and Belorussia join the festival to reenact the main events of the battle. A living history encampment is set on the right bank of the Don River, near Tatinki village, just neat the historic Kulikovo field. The visitors of the camps can experience the military activities of the Russian warriors and Tartaro-Mongols. The festival program includes also knights tournaments, medieval armour and costume contests, swordplay and archery displays, medieval equipment and clothing market.
