The Event

Souvigny is a commune in the Allier department in Auvergne in central France. In the Middle Ages, Souvigny has been one of the major towns in the Bourbonnais historic province, and the royal House of Bourbon was based there.

The Medieval Fair is held in Souvigny every summer, introduced by the Count Robert of Clermont and his wife Beatrice of Burgundy, Lady of Bourbon. The medieval spirit of the town is brought to life by historical encampment, demonstrating everyday life, large medieval market with artisans and traders who offer workshops such as embroidery, cooking, pottery, coinage and calligraphy, and various activities for adults and children.
The programme includes an exciting falconry show, knights’ tournaments, animations by jesters, troubadours and storytellers, ancient games and a medieval banquet.
