Midlands History Festival

Midlands History Festival
Whites, Earls Barton (Northamptonshire county)

The Event

The Midlands is the traditional name for the area comprising central England that broadly corresponds to the early medieval Kingdom of Mercia. The Midlands does not correspond to any current administrative area. However, it is generally considered to include the counties of Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, the West Midlands metropolitan boroughs and Worcestershire. The largest city is Birmingham. The Midlands was also an important location for the Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Midlands History Festival is the great multi-period reenactment, taking place each year in a different location in the territory of the historic Midlands, that comprises actual regions of East Midlands and West Midlands. The event illustrates the daily civil and military life in different periods, from Ancient Rome to WW2, through living history displays, historical camps, battle reenactments, combat and cannons demonstrations, reenactors' markets, falconry shows, historical parade, music and dance performances, archery contests, historical cuisine and crafts workshops, and a wealth of leisure and educational interactive activities designed for visitors of all ages. Separate modern market areas and campsite will take place in an adjacent area.
