02-10.09.2017
Largs (North Ayrshire council area)
SCOTLAND

A journey to the charming seaside town of Largs in Scotland to relive first-hand the epic battle that took place in AD 1263 in Largs, where the brave Scottish knights defeated an invading Viking army, and enjoy a real time travel back to the Middle Ages to rediscover what daily life was really like in a 13th century village…

The Event

Largs is a town on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, about 53 km from Glasgow. A popular seaside resort with a pier, the town is known also by its historic links with the Vikings and the annual Viking Festival held there. The Festival commemorates the Battle of Largs of 1263, between the Norwegian and the Scottish armies, which was the scene of the last Viking invasion in Scotland.

The Festival starts with the opening day parade, opening ceremony and various displays and activities. The Viking Village is set up, where historical reenactors live, work and fight as Vikings, and the visitors can learn about their skills, trades and crafts. There are also special events and skirmishes that take place throughout the week at the village. School groups are welcome at the Village where children can be educated in a living Viking environment that brings history to life.
