thousands of mounted knights and swordsmen, spearmen and archers for the World's largest Medieval Reenactment on the very battlefield where history was once made, to relive the Battle of Grunwald fought in Poland by the Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania against Teutonic Order of Crusader Knights in AD 1410...

The Event

Days of Grunwald, part of the celebrations organized by the Grunwald municipality, became one of the biggest living history events gathering numerous reenactment groups in a large medieval encampment. The arrival of the Polish King King Jogaila (Władysław Jagiełło), the Lithuanian Duke Vytautas (Witold) and Teutonic Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen and the participants presentation mark the beginning of the event.

The main point of the event is the reenactment of the great medieval Battle of Grunwald that took place in 1410 in the battlefields of Grunwald between the Teutonic Knights and allied Polish and Lithuanian forces. The battle reenactment attracts 100.000 spectators and thousands of reenactors from all over the world. The battle, named after Grunwald by the Polish or Tannenberg by Germans, took place on 15 July 1410. It was one of the most important battles in Medieval Europe for the number of knights involved and resulted in the victory of the Polish. This victory led to an end of the Polish-Lithuanian-Teutonic War (1409-1411), the expansion of the Knights was stopped and they submitted their state to vassal of the Polish Kingdom.

In addition to battle, there are many attractions on the site such as medieval music evenings, old dances workshops, jugglers’ art workshop, board games tournaments, Gregorian chant workshops, archery, sword fighting and equestrian tournaments, craft workshops and the fire shows.
