Cherasco is a town nestled on a spur overlooking the Langhe hilly area and the Alps and surrounded by star-shaped ramparts, at about 50 km from Turin and 40 km from Cuneo in region Piedmont. The today Cherasco was refounded during the Middle Ages in AD 1243 on the former ancient roman village of Clerascum as witnessed by its grid plan. Soon Cherasco became a free commune (a medieval city-state) and got involved in the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines, and from the 16th to the 20th century hosted a prosperous Jewish community with the ghetto, the cemetery, the 18th century synagogue with a fine Baroque Torah ark and bimah. Cherasco is historically famous for the armistice signed in April 1796 by the French Republic and the Kingdom of Sardinia during the First Napoleonic Campaign in Italy.

And every year the town hosts a great historical event to commemorate the Armistice of Cherasco featuring hundreds of reenactors from all over Europe and making the atmosphere and the armies of the Napoleonic Age to relive through artillery, infantry and cavalry units, as well as sutlers and other camp followers.
