The Event

"Las Alfonsadas" is a medieval reenactment of an event of the Reconquista period in Spain, which took place in 1120: Alfonso I the Battler, king of Aragon and Navarre, re-conquered the city of Calatayud from the Muslims on June 24.

The ancient streets of Calatayud are brought back to the Medieval times, crowded by minstrels, merchants, troubadours, knights, maidens and jokers. The programme of the event, rich in medieval displays and demonstrations, involve the audience into the real experience of the history. Knights' tournaments, concerts of medieval music and dances, theater performances, street entertainment, storytelling, displays with birds of prey, traditional medieval games and artisans' market are some of the initiatives, organized in Calatayud during "Las Alfonsadas". The highlights of the programme include representations of the battle for the city, its conquest by Alfonso I and related celebrations.
