Brixham Pirate Festival

The Brixham Pirate&Shanty Festival
29.04-01.05.2017
Brixham (Devon county)
ENGLAND

A swashbuckling mix of piratical fun and entertainment! The Brixham Pirate Festival is an annual gathering of the worlds most infamous pirates and lowly scallywags.

The Event

Brixham, a small fishing town and port in Devon, each year hosts the Pirate Festival, which gathers thousands of pirates and attracts a great number of pirate fans from England and other European countries.

Historical re-enactments during the two days of the event demonstrate life during the 16-18th centuries and pirates’ customs and habits. The highlight of the event is the Grand Pirate Skirmish, reenactment of the attack on the Golden hind, replica of Sir Francis Drakes ship. Special place is devoted to the commemoration of the Great Gale of 1866 in Brixham. There are various entertainment programs for children and adults, like sword dancing display, puppet shows, live music, Mermaid storytelling and Brixham’s Ghost Walk. The shanty workshop includes demonstrations with ropes and singing, and the live street theatre “The Pirates and the Musketeers” invites to their performances. Children can enjoy various games and competitions, crafts and juggling workshops, face painting and hair braiding, and of course dressing as pirates.
