The Event

The event takes place in Biot, a charming village located atop a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea near Antibes, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in southeastern France, once (16th to 18th century) a famous pottery center and still today famous for its beautiful glassworks and decorative pottery. The territory was inhabitated since the Prehistoric Age as witnessed by archaeological findings, and then dominated for a long period by the Celto-Ligurian tribes often in war with the near town of Antipolis (Antibes) of Greek origins. After defeating the Ligurians in 154 BC, the Romans settled in the area. During the Middle Ages in year 1209, the Count of Provence donated the village and the surroundings to the Knight Templars, and Biot became the most important and rich Templar stronghold in the area for almost one hundred years.

Every year Biot celebrates the age of the Templars in its territory through a majestic historical event which is characterized by great attention to costuming and details, and offers the audience a deep insight into the 12th-13th centuries daily life and the world of the Templars with their rules and principles. The rich programme includes medieval music concerts featuring Gregorian chants, polyphony and troubadour songs, lectures and conferences, religious services, crafts and medieval market, historical camps with living history displays, exhibitions, street theatre, historical parades and torchlight procession in medieval costumes, dance shows, falconry and archery displays, tournaments and jousts, puppet shows, several workshops, leisure and educational activities for children, guided tours of the old town and fortress in the footsteps of the Templars, as well as the reenactment of the donation of Biot and of a medieval battle.
